Kiwanis East Meadow

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!

At the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow, they strive to fulfill the Kiwanis vision of changing the world, one child and one community at a time.  Through the participation of their members, they help to educate children, support their community, and establish themselves as the premier service organization in East Meadow.

Friends of Port Rowing

The funding arm for the Port Rowing Teams, Friends of Port Rowing is a not-for-profit organization. Port Rowing builds strength and character, teaches sportsmanship and discipline, and instills self-confidence for teens and adults on Long Island through the sport of rowing.

In 2010, Port Washington resident Monika Dorman brought together a group of rowers and community leaders to pursue her vision of a rowing club for the children of Port Washington. Monika, a rower herself, recruited Mitch Tamkin, a former collegiate and US Junior National Team rower, and other accomplished rowers to be the original coaching staff. The coaches were joined by community leaders to form Friends of Port Rowing. Together the work began to build a fleet of boats and recruit the first team.
